Experience - Electrical Engineer
  • Designed and validated a 2 kW isolated DC-DC converter (48 V to 12 V) using LTspice, achieving 94.1% peak efficiency and passing pre-compliance EMI tests on the first revision.
  • Led schematic capture and 6-layer PCB layout in Altium for a motor-drive control board (STM32 + gate drivers), reducing field returns by 18% through improved grounding and ESD protection.
  • Automated hardware bring-up and regression testing with Python and SCPI (Keysight scopes, DMMs, and PSUs), cutting test time per unit from 45 minutes to 12 minutes across 300+ builds.
  • Performed root-cause analysis on intermittent CAN bus faults using a logic analyzer and oscilloscope, implementing termination and common-mode choke changes that eliminated errors at 1 Mbps in a noisy harness.

Interviewer
Walk me through a recent power design you owned end-to-end and how you verified it.
You
I owned a 48 V to 12 V, 2 kW isolated DC-DC for an industrial controller, starting with topology selection (phase-shift full-bridge), magnetics and MOSFET sizing, then modeling loops in LTspice and validating compensation on the bench with a Bode 100; verification included efficiency and thermal sweeps, load-step response, and pre-compliance conducted/radiated EMI using a LISN and near-field probes.
Interviewer
What was the hardest issue you hit during bring-up, and what did you change to fix it?
You
We saw a sporadic oscillation at light load that only appeared above 45 C ambient, so I captured switch-node ringing and gate behavior, found a marginal gate drive due to layout inductance, and fixed it by tightening the gate loop, adding a small RC snubber, and adjusting dead-time, which stabilized the loop and improved light-load efficiency by about 1.5%.

Why practice first?

Interviews are high-pressure

Even strong candidates underperform without reps. Practice reduces stress and sharpens delivery.

Rehearsal builds muscle memory

You get comfortable telling your story, quantifying impact, and handling curveball follow-ups.

Feedback accelerates improvement

Immediate, actionable notes help you close gaps before the real interview.
