Mathematician
- Applied Mathematician, QuantLab Analytics (2022-2025): Developed a stochastic optimization model for inventory allocation across 12 distribution centers; reduced stockouts and improved service levels.
- Built a Python/NumPy simulation to evaluate queuing policies for customer support; findings influenced the 2024 staffing plan.
- Researched PDE-based models for heat transfer in composite materials and presented results at the internal seminar series.
- Co-authored a paper on Bayesian inference methods; contributed to proofs and experiments.
- Teaching Assistant, State University (2020-2022): Led weekly problem sessions for Real Analysis and Linear Algebra; received positive student feedback.
- Skills: Python, MATLAB, R, LaTeX, C++, optimization, statistics, machine learning, communication.
Overview
- Add quantitative outcomes (baseline, delta, and business/research impact) to your strongest bullets.
- Make technical work more specific (methods, assumptions, validation) so scope and rigor are clear.
- Tighten publications/skills to credible, role-relevant details instead of broad lists.
Suggestions
Quantify the result and state what metric moved, by how much, and over what time window. Example rewrite: "Developed stochastic optimization model for inventory allocation across 12 DCs; cut stockouts from X% to Y% and improved fill rate by Z pp over 6 months."
"Reduced stockouts" and "improved service levels" are strong claims, but without numbers or timeframe the impact is hard to assess and compare to other candidates.

"Developed a stochastic optimization model for inventory allocation across 12 distribution centers; reduced stockouts and improved service levels."
Add experimental scale and measurable outcomes. Example rewrite: "Built Python/NumPy discrete-event simulation (N=XXK calls/day) to compare 5 queuing policies; recommended policy cut average wait time by X% and reduced required headcount by Y FTE."
Saying it "influenced" staffing is vague; hiring managers want to see the magnitude of the decision and how your math/modeling changed it.

"Built a Python/NumPy simulation to evaluate queuing policies for customer support; findings influenced the 2024 staffing plan."
Specify the PDEs, numerical/analytic approach, and validation. Example rewrite: "Modeled transient heat conduction in composites using anisotropic diffusion PDE; implemented finite element solver and validated vs. lab measurements (RMSE=X)."
"PDE-based models" could mean many things; naming the equation class, method, and validation makes the work credible and differentiates your expertise.

"Researched PDE-based models for heat transfer in composite materials and presented results at the internal seminar series."
Provide a complete citation and clarify your contribution. Example rewrite: "Co-authored: Kim, A. et al., 'Title,' Journal/Conference, 2024; proved lemma on identifiability and ran MCMC experiments on X datasets."
A publication bullet is high-signal, but without venue/title/date (and what you owned) it reads generic and is difficult to verify.

"Co-authored a paper on Bayesian inference methods; contributed to proofs and experiments."
Replace the broad skills line with a targeted, proficiency-based list tied to your bullets. Example rewrite: "Tools: Python (NumPy/SciPy, PyMC), MATLAB; Methods: stochastic optimization, Bayesian inference, PDE numerics; Writing: LaTeX."
A long, mixed list (including soft skills like "communication") can look inflated; grouping by tools/methods and reflecting what you actually used increases credibility.
