Personal Financial Advisor - Resume Example (Intentionally Imperfect)
- Associate Financial Advisor, Riverstone Wealth Partners (2022-Present): Support 2 senior advisors on retirement and investment planning; prepare proposals, run annual review packets, and coordinate follow-ups for 80+ client households.
- Helped grow the client base through referrals and local networking events; brought in new relationships and kept clients engaged with regular check-ins.
- Developed financial plans using eMoney and Excel (cash flow, debt payoff, insurance needs); presented recommendations in client meetings and tracked next steps.
- Client Service Representative, FirstTown Bank (2020-2022): Opened and serviced brokerage and IRA accounts, handled client questions, and resolved issues while meeting branch service goals.
- BBA, Finance, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (2020); coursework includes investments, tax planning, and behavioral finance.
- Skills: portfolio analysis, mutual funds/ETFs, retirement projections, client onboarding, CRM (Salesforce). Licenses: SIE passed; Series 7 scheduled (2026).
Overview
- Add specific business outcomes (AUM, revenue, retention, conversion) to show advisory impact, not just activity.
- Clarify licensing/readiness for an advisor seat (Series 65/66 and/or insurance licensing; timeline and status).
- Tighten vague phrasing ("helped," "kept engaged") into ownership + scope + measurable result.
Suggestions
Rewrite to quantify deliverables and your ownership. Example: "Support 2 senior advisors by building 15-20 proposals/month and preparing 60+ annual review packages/quarter for ~80 households (~$XXM AUM); improved review turnaround time by X% (or reduced errors to X)."
The bullet lists tasks but not volume, AUM supported, or the tangible outcomes of your work. Quantifying throughput and impact makes your contribution credible for an advisor role.

Replace generic networking language with measurable production. Example: "Generated X qualified leads/quarter from Y events; converted X to clients (X% conversion) representing ~$X in new assets and $X in annual advisory fees."
Personal Financial Advisor roles are evaluated heavily on business development. "Helped grow" and "brought in new relationships" is hard to assess without pipeline and conversion metrics.

Specify the types of plans, client segments, and outcomes. Example: "Built comprehensive plans (retirement readiness, SS claiming, 401(k) allocation, insurance gap analysis) for X households; drove implementation of at least one recommendation for X% of clients (rollovers, automated savings, debt payoff)."
Saying you developed plans is good, but the scope (who, how many, complexity) and results (implementation/adoption) are what signal advisory effectiveness.

"Developed financial plans using eMoney and Excel (cash flow, debt payoff, insurance needs); presented recommendations in client meetings and tracked next steps."
Clarify licensing path and align it to typical advisor requirements. Example: "Licenses: SIE, Series 7 (passed MM/YYYY); Series 66 scheduled MM/YYYY; Life/Health (IL) pending" (only include what is true). If Series 7 is far out, add what you can do today (client service vs. advice) and expected dates.
A Series 7 scheduled in 2026 creates uncertainty and can screen you out. Hiring managers need immediate compliance clarity and a near-term plan (often Series 65/66 and insurance for planning-heavy roles).
